「I walked around Stewart Island」

８月８日　スチュワート島をいっぱい歩いたぞ

The weather was changing rapidly (raining and shining) today. I have often experienced it in the small islands of Tonga. Anyway it was very windy all day long.

  天気は目まぐるしく雨が降ったり晴れたりと変化していました。トンガの小さい島でよくある天気です。とにかく一日中凄い風でした。

↑This is the place I took a photo with 3 American guys. I wonder how they are doing. At that time they were almost the same age as me, 20-23 years old.

 ここは３人のアメリカ人客と写真を撮った場所です。彼らは元気にしているのかなぁと思います。あの時、彼らはTorojiro先生とほぼ同じで２０歳から２３歳でした。

 

↑First, I visited the tourist information office. Since it was so windy, I decided not to go to the outer island, Ulva Island. Instead I went for a walk around Oban, the central city of Stewart Island.

   初めに観光案内所に行きました。風がとても強いので、Ulva島（離島）には行かず、中心地Obanを歩き廻ることにしました。

   これがObanです。波止場が見えますよね。

↑This is the world’s most south located YHA. Yet I will not stay here this time because it doesn’t have a dormitory room (we have to rent the whole house for NZ$140=US$100 / 1night) and the owner is not here so even if I stay here, I cannot communicate with the owner and cannot give the YAMANEKO. The Invercargill tourist information officer said that in the near future the other room will be constructed. I will come here again.

  世界最南端のYHAです。しかし今回はここに泊まりません。共同部屋を持っていないので、丸ごと借り切るのに１万円程必要なのと、管理人さんがココにいないので、コミュニケーションも取れなければ山ネコを渡すことも出来ないからです。インバーカーギルの観光案内所職員いわく、近々他の部屋が出来てくるとか・・・また来ようと思います。

   スーパーマーケットで傘とアイスクリームを買いました。傘が強風の為に壊れてしまったからです。

↑These are the pictures of scenery I saw on the way. The man was setting a trap to catch rats. It eats kiwi or important birds’ eggs.

  途中に見た景色です。この男性はネズミ捕獲のワナを仕掛けています。ネズミはキウイや他の大事な鳥の卵を食べてしまうのです。

↑A tui (bird) is singing. The bird’s name is used for one of NZ beers.

  Tuiという名の鳥が鳴いています。ビールの名前にもなっています。

  この島には川があります。

↑At night, I talked with Jo and Andy. Andy is very interested in the Samurai. I can communicate with them much more than last time, maybe because thanks to Tongan life I have been improving my English. Though, my English is far from the native level.

 夜、Joさん、Andyさんと話しました。Andyさんはサムライにとても興味を持っています。前回よりたくさんコミュニケーションが取れています。多分トンガ生活で英語が上達しているからでしょう。まだまだネイティブレベルには到底及びませんが・・・。
