7th Feb. We started our workshop.

We started our workshop.

We visited GPS ‘Alele’uta, which is the main primary school in the island, though there are only 2 primary schools. How calm the area is!

We started with a prayer, and this is common in Tonga.

After Talahiva’s greeting, I started the presentation about our abacus program. We had only 30 minutes for each, because there were 5 presenters. After that Uini, who belongs to a Tongan language, English member Miki, and mathematics member Monika did a presentation in order.
Talahiva’s talk was powerful as usual.

After the workshop, I gave out pupils’ abacuses and teachers’ abacus to each school. From the left Kiko, who is the principal of GPS Tongamama’o and Salesi, who is GPS ‘Alele’uta’s principal. I met Salesi last week in Vava’u at the workshop and kava party.

Miki and Palu, who was my TIOE student in 2009. I taught an abacus skill to him, he may aim at going to Japan. Please pass the level 5.

We visited the other GPS, Tongamama’o, because we needed to bring 2 teachers back to their house. There are only 2 teachers and a few people in the village.
Only some people have a car one this island.

Around 6 o’clock, I saw a doctor, because my mouth was terrible. This is my mouth, maybe because of the kava (very strong) in Niuafo’ou, my upper lip was swelling and the skin peeled off. The inside is more terrible than the outside.

Fortunately, we have only one doctor in the island. The doctor Viliami told me that these symptoms came from the kava and bacteria. I got an antibiotic medicine so hopefully I will be better soon.
