「Preparing the Hall」

８月２４日　会場準備だぞ

 

↑In the morning, we practiced for the Oral and Flash problems. Sefo and Sione, who is a school’s officer in Vava’u and is fascinating Hirono and Kimika thanks to his dandy appearance, will take charge of reading. We gave them the situation practice a lot. Both of them have an experience so they must be good tomorrow.

 朝、読上算とフラッシュ暗算の練習をしました。Sefoさんと、ダンディーな雰囲気でHironoさんとKimikaさんを魅了しているスクールズオフィサーのSioneさんが読み手を務めます。状況に応じた練習を与えました。２人とも経験があるので、明日はきっとうまくいきます。

 

↑What a skinny pig! It has owners but they don’t feed them. How silly the owners are!

 何と痩せたブタでしょう。飼い主はいるのですが、えさを与えていません。馬鹿げた飼い主です・・・。

 

↑Around noon, we went down to the Neiafu city center to have lunch. Soroban girls were wearing sunglasses and were putting up their parasols. Manami is looking for a proper parasol now.

  お昼頃、ネイアフ市街地へ行きました。そろばんガールズはサングラスをかけ日傘を差しています。Manamiさんは適切な日傘を今探しています。

 

↑The scenery in Vava’u is very beautiful. It’s whale season now so there are lots of yachts beside the wharf.

  ババウの景色はとてもキレイです。今は鯨のシーズンなので、波止場近くにたくさんのヨットが停泊しています。

 

↑That’s the restaurant we went to. Sashimi (raw fish) was pretty good!

  行ったレストランです。刺身がおいしかったです。

 

↑In the afternoon, around 3:30, we prepared the hall for the competition. This time, participants can use individual desks and these are almost the same size. The environment is very special as a Tongan competition. We are looking forward to the competition.

  ３時半頃、大会会場準備をしました。今回は参加者がほぼ同じ大きさで個別の机を使うことができます。これはトンガの大会にしては特別なことです。明日の大会が楽しみです。

 

↑We took away 3 pizzas and some sweets. After that we ate them in our accommodation. Soroban girls prepared our table rapidly. They are good at preparing, eating and cleaning up.

  ３枚のピザを持ち帰り、宿で食べました。そろばんガールズは食卓を速攻で準備しました。準備すること、食べること、片付けることが得意です。

By chance Sefo was wearing this clothes which shows the number 34. “34” has a special meaning for Hirono, so they are laughing.

  SefoさんとHironoさんです。

　Sefoさんはたまたま３４と書かれた服を着ていました。３４はHironoさんにとって、特別な意味のある数字です。だから彼らは笑っているのです。

23rd Aug. Staff Meeting

８月２３日　スタッフミーティングだぞ

 

↑In the morning, I stayed in my accommodation because of my illness. My condition was getting better but just in case I stayed here. The other officers prepared for the staff meeting. Thank you so much.

 午前中、風邪のせいで宿にいました。体調は良くなっているものの念のためです。他のオフィサー達はスタッフミーティングの準備をしていました。ありがとうございます。

 

↑After noon, we had a staff meeting. Sefo took charge as the main organizer. He explained well. Compared with the last Vava’u competition, everything is going well.

 午後、スタッフミーティングがありました。Sefoさんが主となってうまく説明してくれました。去年のババウ大会に比べて全てがうまく行っています。

 

↑At dinner, the boys went to the Chinese restaurant. Fuyuhiko came here 3 straight days. It was Sefo’s first time to come to a Chinese restaurant 2 straight days. That’s good!

  男衆で中華レストランに行きました。Macchanにとって３日連続、Sefoさんにとっても２日連続で中華レストランに来たのは初めてです。良いことです！

 

↑Since last year, when the restaurant appeared, I was fascinated by this warning. “NO OUTSIDE DRINKS IN!!!” There is no verb. It’s not grammatically correct, but we can understand what the owner wants to say. Maybe it means “Don’t bring any drink (also food) from the outside= Buy everything here”

  去年このレストランが出来た時から、この警告に魅了されています。「NO OUTSIDE DRINKS IN!!!」凄い英文です。動詞が・・・無い(笑)。まぁ文法的には正しくないにせよ、オーナーの言いたいことはわかります。恐らく一切飲み物（食べ物も）持ち込まないで、ここで買って欲しいってことでしょう。

22nd Aug. Vava’u Island

「Vava’u Island」

８月２２日　ババウ島だぞ

 

↑In the early morning, 5:30, we left Nuku’alofa city center and then took our airplane to Vava’u. This time 5 officers (Sefo, Hiko, Hirono, Kimika and Torojiro) got on the same airplane. Manami, who is a new soroban girl, has already been in Vava’u.

 早朝５：３０、ヌクアロファ市街地を出て、それからババウ行きの飛行機に乗りました。今回はSefoさん、Hikoさん、Hironoさん、Kimikaさん、Torojiro先生と５人のオフィサーが一緒に飛行機で行きます。新そろばんガールのManamiさんは既にババウにいます。

 

↑Pungatoa, who is a school’s officer in Vava’u and because he is so dandy Hirono and Kimika are fascinated by him, came to the airport and picked us up.

 On the way to the school’s office, we took a look at the hall which we will use at the competition. This is Maama Mo’onia Hall and is the biggest hall compared with the other halls which we used before.

 ババウスクールズオフィサーで、あまりのダンディーさにHironoさんとKimikaさんが魅了されているPungatoaさんが空港にお迎えに来てくれました。

　スクールズオフィスへの途中、大会会場下見をしました。Maama Mo’onia ホールです。今まで使ったホールの中で一番大きいです。

 

↑We arrived at the school’s office. Manami welcomed us. Thank you for your preparation.

  スクールズオフィスに着きました。Manamiさんが迎えてくれました。色々準備ありがとうございます。SefoさんとHironoさんは一緒に立っております。

 

↑In the morning, we had a meeting among the 6 officers.

  朝、６人のオフィサーでミーティングをしました。

↑In the afternoon, we had a meeting together with the Vava’u school’s officers. Especially we were talking about the staff meeting tomorrow. Sefo organized this meeting, it was a good meeting.

  午後、ババウスクールズオフィサー達とミーティングをしました。特に明日のスタッフミーティングの為の話し合いをしました。Sefoさんが仕切ってやっておりましたが、良いミーティングでした。

 

↑The only one problem was Torojiro. I was in a bad condition all day long. I played too much in New Zealand and its temperature was completely different from Tonga, in addition, the last 3 days I was sleeping in the aisle of the bus, airport and so on. It might have caused this illness.

  たった１つの問題はTorojiro先生でした。一日中具合が悪かったのです。ニュージーランドで遊びすぎたのと、天候がトンガと全く違うのと、最後の３日間はバスの通路で寝たり、空港で寝たりだったのが、この風邪を引き起こしたのかも知れません。

 

↑I was supposed to go to the unique Chinese restaurant in Vava’u but I couldn’t. Instead, Vava’u volunteers and abacus officers brought take away food and medicines for me. Oh, thank you very much. I will recover from my illness as early as possible.

  ババウ島唯一の中華料理店に行く予定でしたが、行けませんでした。その代わり、ババウボランティアやそろばんオフィサー達が持ち帰り料理や薬を持ってきてくれました。ありがとうございます。出来るだけ早く回復しようと思います。

21st Aug. Birthday Party

８月２１日　誕生日会だぞ

 

↑I was feeling sick a little bit but I went to Yuka’s house with Hirono, Kimika, Miyuki and Katsuya. Recently, Miyuki and Kimika had their birthdays.

Soroban girls are wearing sunglasses and putting up a parasol when it’s sunny. It seems like the characteristics of soroban girls so perhaps the new soroban girl, Manami, and my replacement, Sakiko, will be forced to do it.

 風邪気味でしたが、Taneちゃんの家にHironoさん、Kimikaさん、Miyuki姉、Kacchanと行きました。Miyuki姉とKimikaさんは最近誕生日を迎えました。

　そろばんガールズは天気が良い時は、サングラスをかけ日傘を差しています。これはそろばんガールズの特徴のようですので、たぶん新そろばんガールのManamiさんとTorojiro先生の後任Sakikoさんもやることになるでしょう。

 

↑We enjoyed a lot. Since I was in bad condition, I cannot write my blog any more…I should recover from this illness before my business trip to Vava’u.

 楽しみました。体調が良くないので、これ以上書けません。ババウ出張までに体調を戻さなければなりません。

20th Aug. Preparation, Farewell Party

８月２０日　準備・送別会だぞ

 

↑We prepared for the abacus competition in Vava’u. Though I’ve just come back from New Zealand, we are going to Vava’u next week. We are busy.

 ババウそろばん大会の準備をしました。ニュージーランドから帰ってきたばかりですが、来週ババウに行きます。忙しいです。

 

↑While I was in New Zealand, the sign board appeared next to my room. That’s good, because around our place is narrow and is crowded a little bit so it’s easy for visitors to find our workplace CDU.

 ニュージーランドにいる間に、看板が出来ていました。これは良いです。職場の周りは狭くて、混んでいるので、訪問者にとってCDUを簡単に見つけられます。

 

↑At night, we had a farewell party. One JICA coordinator and his family are going back to Japan. They came to Tonga just before I came here so most of time, we were together in Tonga. Thank you for your trouble for 2 years.

  夜、送別会を開きました。JICA調整員と彼の家族が日本に帰ります。彼らはTorojiro先生が来る直前にトンガに来たので、ほとんどの時間、一緒にトンガにいたことになります。２年間お疲れ様でした。

↑After that, a lot of volunteers went to the bar Bill Fish, but I stayed at the dormitory because I’m scared of Faka Leiti. Around 12 o’clock, I got information that they would move from Bill Fish to Karaoke, so I joined. We had a very good time.

  その後、たくさんのボランティアがBill Fishバーに行きましたが、Torojiro先生はドミトリーに留まりました。Faka Leiti（おかまさん）が怖いからです。１２時頃、Bill Fishからカラオケに移動するという情報をもらったので合流しました。楽しい時間でした。

19th Aug. Church School, GPS Puke

８月１９日　教会系学校、Puke小学校

 

↑I visited the school’s office of church primary schools with Kimika. There are 6 church primary schools in Tongatapu and they are supposed to start abacus education since this school year, but because we couldn’t prepare the materials, they couldn’t start it. Thank you for waiting. Sefo will give a workshop for the church schools maybe soon.

 教会系小学校のオフィスをKimikaさんと訪ねました。トンガタプには６つの教会系小学校があります。今年度からそろばん教育を始める予定でしたが、道具の不足で始めていませんでした。お待たせしました。Sefoさんは近いうちに教会系学校に向けたワークショップを開きます。

 

↑The officer Alisona is an eager worker. We must reward her for her request.

 オフィサーのAlisonaさんは一生懸命なので、我々も要望にこたえなければなりません。

 

↑In the after noon, I visited GPS Puke with Hiko, Hirono, Kimika and Sefo.

  午後、Hikoさん、Hironoさん、Kimikaさん、SefoさんとPuke小学校を訪れました。

 

↑The teacher Manulua is a very good teacher so I wanted the abacus & mathematics officers to know her. Her class was pretty good.

  Manulua先生はとてもよい先生なので、そろばん・算数オフィサー達に知ってもらいたかったのです。彼女の授業は素晴らしかったです。

After that I was supposed to celebrate Kimika’s birthday, but she was in bad condition therefore she was sleeping. Take care.

  その後、Kimikaさんの誕生日をお祝いする予定でしたが、具合が悪くずっと寝ていました。お大事に！

18th Aug. No.300 YAMANEKO

「No.300 YAMANEKO」

８月１８日　山ネコNo.３００だぞ

It was very fine today. That’s great as my last day in New Zealand.

 今日は天気がとてもよかったので、ニュージーランド最終日としては最高でした。

 

↑They were very kind this time as well, so I asked them to receive an extra YAMANEKO doll and it’s the memorial No.300 YAMANEKO.

  彼らは今回もとても親切にしてくれました。もう１つ山ネコを受け取ってもらうようにお願いしました。これはNo.３００のメモリアル山ネコです。

 

↑Mostly I was having a rest, the only one thing I did was shopping. Kalo knows well which shop is cheapest, so we went around only 3 shops and I bought a lot of souvenirs to take back to Tonga.

  ほぼ休憩していましたが、１つだけやったことは、買い物です。Kaloさんはどこの店が安いかよく知っているので、３つだけ店を廻って、トンガにお土産を買いました。

 

↑I used the Internet for an hour and prepared for going back.

  インターネットを１時間やって、帰る準備をしました。

↑Around 7 o’clock PM my airplane departed, and then, at 11 o’clock I arrived at Tonga. Though, there were some troubles in New Zealand, especially the storm, I enjoyed it a lot. This New Zealand trip was so to speak my rehabilitation for going back to Japan. I mean if I go back to Narita Airport directly, I will be surprised too much.

  午後７時に出発して、１１時頃トンガに着きました。ニュージーランドではいくつかトラブルがありましたが(特に嵐)、楽しめました。これは日本に帰るリハビリです。もし成田空港へ直接帰ったら、めちゃくちゃビックリするでしょうから。
