６月２４日　そろばん算数部会

 

↑In the morning, the soroban girls, Hirono & Kimika came to CDU. We talked about the competitions which we are supposed to run from now.

 朝そろばんガールズのHironoさんとKimikaさんがCDUに来ました。これから運営するそろばん大会について話し合いました。

 

 

↑We visited Little Tokyo restaurant. It will be closed for two months starting in July. We ordered Katsu-don (a pork cutlet and rice in a bowl) and Tekka-don (raw tuna and rice in a bowl). Because these are a little bit expensive, it was only my second time to order Katsu-don, though I come to the restaurant every week.

  リトル東京へ行きました。７月から２ヶ月間休みに入ります。カツ丼と鉄火丼を注文しました。それらは高いので、毎週ここへ来ますがカツ丼を注文したのは２回目でした。

 

 

↑After lunch, we met Miwa and Akiko. We talked about how to run the competitions as a sponsor.

 Following that, we wrapped the gifts which we will give to the commended students at the competition. Hirono and Kimika moved a lot so it seemed to be a very good exercise for them.

  昼食後、Miwaさん、Akikoさんと話しました。主催者側としてどのように大会を運営するか話しました。

　それから、表彰式で子どもにあげる景品の包装をしました。HironoさんとKimikaさんはたくさん動いたので、良い運動になったようです。

 

↑At night, I made my special curry & rice. I used only a few whole bulbs of garlic. I’ll bring it to the JICA dormitory for a welcome party tomorrow.

  夜、特製カレーを作りました。丸々数個だけのニンニクを入れました。明日歓迎会の為にドミトリーへ持って行きます。

６月２３日　掃除・夕食

 

↑Sefo and I cleaned our room carefully. We have a meeting with Hirono, Kimika and the Japanese embassy officers tomorrow. I threw away a lot of outdated books and documents.

 SefoさんとTorojiro先生は部屋の掃除を丁寧に行いました。明日Hironoさん、Kimikaさん、大使館員で会議を行います。古くなった本や書類をたくさん捨てました。

 

↑After work, we had dinner with the new volunteers. Manami (on the left) is a primary school teacher and her job contains abacus content, so to speak a new soroban girl has come to Tonga. Yuuki (in the middle) will be working for a kindergarten in Mu’a village.

  仕事の後、新隊員さんと夕食を食べました。写真左のManamiさんは小学校教諭で、仕事はそろばんの内容を含みます。つまり新しいそろばんガールがトンガに来たということです。写真中央のYuukiさんは幼稚園の先生でMu’aへ配属です。

 

 

↑At last abacus volunteers have come in each main island and all of the abacus volunteers are in Tongatapu now. Fantastic! Let’s enjoy Tongan life.

  遂にそろばんの出来るボランティアがそれぞれの島へ配属になりました。今はそのボランティア達が全員トンガタプにいます。素晴らしい！トンガ生活を楽しみましょう。

22nd Jun. New Volunteers

６月２２日　新隊員さんだぞ

 

↑I visited the immigration office to get the form to apply for a passport. I’m waiting for Mr. Fujii’s final decision about which Tongan teacher and which Tongan student can participate in the Japanese abacus camp in August. I guess it will be chosen from Ha’apai or ‘Eua so I will pass the form to Hirono and Kimika this weekend, then after the decision the selected person can apply the passport right away.

 入出国管理事務所でパスポートを作る書類をもらいました。Fujii先生の最終決定を待っています。８月にトンガ人教師１名・子ども１名が日本のそろばんキャンプに参加できるというものですが、おそらくハアパイかエウアから選ばれるでしょう。その書類を今週末HironoさんとKimikaさんに渡して、そしたら決まりしだい選ばれた人はすぐにパスポートの申し込みが出来るのです。

 

 

↑At TIOE, I confirmed the schedule of semester 2. We are supposed to teach addition & subtraction to the year 2 students. Following that, I received the list of the students.

 教員養成学校で２学期のスケジュールを確認しました。２年生にたし算とひき算を教える事になっています。その後、生徒の名簿を受け取りました。

 

 

↑While I was out, Sefo completed marking the final examination. I will input the data in our PC and perhaps tomorrow, we can finish a final evaluation from the data.

 Sefoさんはその間、最終試験の採点を終えました。そのデータをパソコンへ入力します。多分明日、そのデータから最終評価をつける事ができるでしょう。
 

 

↑After Melissa’s lesson, we went for a jog at Teufaiva stadium. A lot of Tongans are running in the evening, that’s good!

 Melissa先生のレッスンの後、Teufaiva競技場へジョギングに行きました。たくさんのトンガ人が夕方走っています。良いことですね。

 

 

↑Around 10 o’clock, we arrived at the International airport to welcome the new volunteers. It was my first time (and will be the last time, because I am going back in 3 months) to come to the airport when new volunteers arrive, though I entertained them a lot after they came to the JICA dormitory.

 １０時頃、国際空港へ着き、新隊員さんを迎えました。新隊員がドミトリーへ来た後はたくさんもてなしましたけど、空港で迎えたのは初めての事でした（３ヶ月後に帰るので最初で最後になるでしょう）。

 

↑Two volunteers have come. Welcome to Tonga!  Yet…who are you? Oh, Hirono…she has just come back from New Zealand on the same airplane. As soon as they arrived, Hirono started to take photos of them- maybe because she belongs to “Camera Club.” Thanks to her photo-taking, they were the last group off the plane and the security guard had to wait for them to finish his work (see the photo).

 By the way, “Diet Club” was broken up by the chief Taichi because only Taichi achieved his goal. Unfortunately the other members couldn’t make any effort. He seemed to be very disappointed by their results. Poor Taichi…

 ２人の新隊員さんが来ました。ようこそトンガへ！しかし・・・だれ？お～Hironoさん・・・同じ飛行機でニュージーランドから帰ってきました。着くやいなや彼らの写真を撮り始めました。Hironoさんは写真部に所属しています。活動のお陰で彼らは最終組となり、写真を見てください。警備員さんは仕事がなかなか終えられませんでした。かわいそうに・・・。

　ところでダイエット部は、部長のTaichiさんによって解散させられました。Taichiさんだけが頑張って成果を上げたからです。残念ながら他の部員達は努力が出来ませんでした。部長は部員の結果に対して非常に落ち込んでいたようでした。お気の毒に・・・。

６月２１日　再会だぞ！

 

↑I enjoyed ZUMBA with the CDU members. It was 40 minutes edition though we did it only 10 minutes.

  CDUでZUMBAを楽しみました。４０分バージョンでした。１０分しかやっていませんけどね・・・。

 

 

↑I checked the TIOE students sick leave certifications. They need more than 80 % attendance to pass the exam but some of them were short of it. If they have their sick leave certifications (kind of an official leave) we can permit their attendance. Unfortunately a lot of students submitted untrue certification (the dates they were absent were different from what I checked or it was the date which had no abacus class), may be they asked their relatives who are doctors to write down the paper to fill in their absence. Actually a lot of Tongan teachers permit their attendance with the untrue certificate because the teachers didn’t check their attendance correctly. On the other hand I checked not only their attendance but their attitude (sleeping, talking with friends, using a mobile phone during our class, forgot to take materials, late for the class and so on) completely every class, so according to my data I can reveal a secret easily. Sorry! That’s the difference between a Tongan teacher and a Japanese teacher.

  You are lucky because you can come to TIOE and study abacus one more time with my replacement.　Sefo confirmed this situation and was laughing.

 教員養成学校の生徒達の病欠証明をチェックしました。試験に合格する為に８０％の出席が必要ですが、何人かは不足しております。病欠証明（一種の公的な休み？）があれば、出席が認められます。残念な事にたくさんの生徒はウソの証明を提出してきます。休んだ日が記録と違っていたり、そろばんが無い日の証明だったり・・・。多分親戚の医者に頼んで、欠席を埋める為にその紙を書いてもらっているのでしょう。実際たくさんのトンガ人教師は彼らの出席をそのウソの証明で認めています。何故なら先生達はきっちり出席をチェックしていないので・・・。一方Torojiro先生は出席だけではなく、態度（居眠り・おしゃべり・授業中に携帯使っている・用具忘れ・遅刻などなど）毎時間、完璧につけているので、記録に従って、簡単にウソをあばく事ができます。すみませんね、これがトンガ人教師と日本人教師の違いなのです。こんなしょーもないウソに振り回されてるようでは日本では務まりませんのでね～。

　でもあなた達はラッキーですよ～。だって来年Torojiro先生の後任さんと、もう一回そろばんが出来るんだから～。おめでとうございます！Sefoさんはこの状況を確認して笑っておりました。

 

 

↑At lunch, I went to a Chinese restaurant and I found a small centipede in my dish. Oh man… When I saw it I had almost finished eating so it’s all right.

 昼に中華料理店に行き、食事の中に小さいムカデを発見しました。おやまぁ。それを見た時はほとんど食べ終わっていたので、良しとしましょう。

 

 

↑After lunch, I met not Koichi but Palu at Talamafu Market. Oh long time no see! Do you remember him? He was my student in TIOE in 2009 and is working for Niuafo’ou ,GPS ‘Aleleuta. Thank you for your kindness at that time. Temporarily he came to Tongatapu (2 weeks school break now) and met his girl friend Naomi. She was also my student in 2010 and they are going to get married in December. Congratulations!  Oh…by the way, they were good students in TIOE.

 昼食の後、Kouちゃんに会いました・・・なわけは無く、Paluさんに会いました。お～久しぶり！彼を覚えていますか？彼は２００９年の教員養成学校の生徒でニウアフォオウの'Aleleuta小学校で働いています。その節はお世話になりました。学校は只今２週間の休暇なので一時的にガールフレンドのNaomiさんに会いに来ています。彼女も２０１０年の教員養成学校の生徒で彼らは１２月に結婚するようです。おめでとうございます。おぉところで彼らは教員養成学校では良い生徒でしたよ。

６月２０日　また会おう！

 

↑I visited the JICA dormitory after 8 o’clock to see Koichi off. He had already prepared his luggage.

  ８時過ぎにKouちゃんを見送る為にJICAドミトリーへ行きました。既に荷物を準備しておりました。

 

 

↑Koichi is the only 21-1 group volunteer so he was the center of public attention.

 Kouちゃんは２１年度１次隊で1人だけのボランティアでした。だから注目の的でした。

 

 

↑I gave him No.293 YAMANEKO doll, though I gave him No.182 YAMANEKO in Ha’apai (Jan. 2010), it was his request. He is working for the Fisheries Agency and is very good at fishing so his YAMANEKO is holding a fish.

 Kouちゃんに山ネコNo.２９３をあげました。２０１０年１月にハアパイで山ネコNo.１８２をあげているのですが、これは彼のリクエストでした。水産局に勤めていて、非常に魚釣りが上手なので彼の山ネコは魚を抱いております。

 

 

↑Thank you for your trouble in Tonga and keep in touch. First let’s exchange our Skype ID. See you again in Japan.

 I’m going back to Japan in 3 months (23 Sep.).

 トンガ生活お疲れ様でした。連絡取りましょう。まずスカイプIDを交換しなきゃなぁ。また日本で会おう。

　Torojiro先生は３ヵ月後に帰国します。９月２３日です。

 

 

↑By the way, my American Peace Corps friend Jac had gone to New Zealand with his parents. He entertained them in Tonga and New Zealand and will come back to Tonga next week. Have a nice trip.

 ところで、ピースコープ友達のJacさんが両親と共にニュージーランドへ行きました。トンガとニュージーランドで両親をもてなし、来週トンガに戻ってくるそうです。よい旅を！

19th Jun. Barbecue

６月１９日　バーベキューだぞ

 

↑We were invited to a barbecue party by a JICA coordinator. I have not eaten such a delicious meat for a long time. Thank you for inviting us.

The party seemed to contain Koichi’s farewell party. He is going back to Japan tomorrow. Time really flies when you are having fun.

  JICA調整員のバーベキューパーティーに招かれました。こんな美味しい肉は長い間食べていませんでした。お招きいただきありがとうございます。

　このパーティーはKouちゃんの送別も兼ねているようでした。彼は明日日本に帰ります。時間が経つのははやいものです。

６月１８日　テニス・飲み・踊りだぞ

 

↑I am making the special YAMANEKO. What is it for? I can tell you perhaps the day after tomorrow in my article.

 特別な山ネコを作っています。何のため？多分明後日の記事で紹介できるでしょう。

 

 

↑Around 3 o’clock, we played tennis at Liahona. My extra bicycle had a flat tire and I cannot fix it now, because a special pump (French type) is on the way from Japan. Damn!

 Anyway, we are continuing the tennis activity every week; it’s good for our health and is good for getting to know each other.

 ３時頃Liahonaでテニスをしました。速いチャリがパンクしました。そしてそれを直すことができません。何故ならフレンチバルブの特殊な空気入れが今日本から向かっている途中だからです。残念！

とにかくテニス活動を毎週続けています。これは健康にも人間関係作りにも良いことですね～。

 

At night, I was supposed to go to a kava party, but suddenly I was invited to the dinner for Koichi, so I visited a Chinese restaurant in the city center. I forgot to take a photo of Koichi as usual and he was in bad condition since last week, maybe because he was invited to a lot of farewell parties, therefore he went back to the dormitory after dinner.

 夜、カバパーティーに行く予定でしたが、突然Kouちゃんの為の夕食に誘われました。街中の中華へ行きました。いつも通りKouちゃんの写真を撮るのを忘れました。そして彼は先週から調子が悪いので食事の後、ドミトリーへ帰りました。多分連日たくさんの送別会に呼ばれているからでしょう。

 

 

↑After the restaurant, we visited this bar, though I didn’t know there is such a nice bar in Nuku’alofa. Yet I cannot read its name from the sign board.

 レストランの後、バーへ行きました。ヌクアロファにこんな良い感じのバーがあるとは知りませんでした。でも看板からは名前が分かりません。

 

 

↑After the bar, we moved to a dancing bar. Although I am poor at dancing, we enjoyed it very much.

Oh, we have remembered. Take care of your health Koichi!

 バーの後ダンスバーへ行きました。ダンスは苦手ですが、とても楽しめました。
